Short Bio

  • He graduated from the University of Würzburg in business management (Dipl-Kfm./MBA) and successfully completed his studies in information technology at the TU Chemnitz. He worked for a few years as a strategic IT consultant, before gaining his Ph.D. in Supply Chain Management Systems at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg.
  • He has more than 20 years experience with SAP/IT Systems: Started with SAP R/3 Version 1.2 in 1992, developed and implemented SAP R/3/SAP ERP (Finance, Sales, Logistics) with company reorganization  in the late 90s, gained his Ph.D. on SAP SCM (incl. SAP APO) in less than 3 years, and started working for SAP in 2002 as product manager with responsibility for the SCM Software, SAP’s first large In-Memory Application, and later as Director for special Strategic Projects.
  • From 2006 to 2012 he was Deputy Chair of Prof. Hasso Plattner for the Enterprise Platform and Integration Concepts (EPIC) group at the Hasso Plattner Institute, University of Potsdam, focusing on real-time In-Memory Enterprise Systems, Design Thinking, and RFID Technology.
  • Since 2007 Design Thinking and many joined Projects with Prof. Larry Leifer and Prof. Terry Winograd at the “ – Institute of Design at Stanford” as well as Visiting Scholar at Stanford Univ.
  • Apil 2006 appointed as Executive Director of the MIT Forum for Supply Chain Innovation.
  • Since May 2009 appointed as Visiting Professor at MIT for guest lectures and talks. In Cambridge at MIT in residence from March 2012 until August 2012 to lecture and conduct research in the area of innovative Enterprise Applications and Business Process Optimizations leveraging In-Memory/HANA Technologies.
  • Dr. Alexander Zeier is as Managing Director In-Memory Solutions and CTO Analytics the Global Lead to drive In-Memory Solutions incl. SAP HANA at Accenture. In this capacity, he works with Accenture clients to develop in-memory solutions, provide support to global industry teams in leveraging in-memory technology, and provide ongoing Thought Leadership. He serves also as director of programs for the SAP HANA® platform within the Accenture Innovation Center for SAP® solutions. His Thought Leadership focuses on Reat-Time Analytics and on the Real-Time Enterprise leveraging In-Memory/SAP HANA.
  • He is the author of more than 150 journal articles and papers. He published seven books on IT and SAP, and in 2011 as co-author of Prof. Hasso Plattner the first book on “In-Memory Data Management – An Inflection Point for Enterprise Applications”.
  • In Addition in 2012 Dr. Alexander Zeier is co-author of Prof. Hasso Plattner of the new extended book “In-Memory Data Management – Technology and Applications” focusing on innovative In-Memory Applications Development. The new Edition is available as printed book  on or, and new also on iTunes store for iPad.
  • Dr. Alexander Zeier is co-inventor of a number of Patents granted (like ETL-less zero redundancy system and method for reporting OLTP data)  or filed regarding In-Memory Technology and Applications for Enterprise Platforms/Systems.
  • In June 2013 appointed as first honorary Professor at the faculty of computer science at University Magdeburg focusing on in-memory technology and applications.
